Bri's Land of Fantastical

Too many thoughts to keep to myself.
I follow back all blogs unless you glamorize depression, self-harm, or suicide. That shit be serious, kids.

this post > everything.

RIP to all those who committed suicide but nobody noticed or cared because they weren’t pretty or popular.

There’s so much about this that makes me mad.  The obvious: That kids are dying as a result of being bullied.  However, Amanda Todd didn’t get a ‘fucking’ page because she was popular or pretty.  There are thousands of kids dying that don’t get the recognition Amanda did. It became news because of the fact that police and the system failed her so terribly.  She then became somewhat of a poster-child for the anti-bully movement.  It is so terribly unfortunate that EVERY kid doesn’t get recognized the same way.
A family member originally started the page.  So as a family member, instead of bitching about your brother not getting recognition, DO something about it.  Where’s his page?  START ONE.  You want to reach out?  Do it in a POSITIVE way, and go talk to schools about what happened to your brother.  Start a support group.
Don’t leave negative messages on a memorial page for another bullied teen.

So I’m from beautiful Calgary, Ab where we have suffered some terrible devastation due to flooding in the last few days. Check out what this douche had to say about it. How about hold off until we finish pulling bodies out of the river?
UPDATE: Buddy has since issued an apology.  Let this be a lesson to THINK before you post.  Especially during sensitive situations.  Social media served Andy a severe spanking and he’s suffering the consequences of his thoughtlessness.

tw self harm
I’m sorry for posting this, it’s just I always see pictures on here of girls with flowers drawn around their cuts or pictures of blood in the shape of hearts or people rebloging pictures of scars and saying “I don’t support self harm but for some reason this looks really beautiful” and it really fucking annoys me
self harm is a real problem faced by real people, you may not be meaning to but posts like those mentioned glamorise it and trivialise it and its just not right.
pictures. of. cuts/scars. are. not. cute.

I teach art to teen girls and the amount that cut themselves because it has been romanticized to the point of becoming a ‘fad’ is disgusting.  These kids are 14-16.
70 PERCENT OF MY 180 FEMALE STUDENTS ARE CUTTING.  When I was a teen, I knew of ONE girl in my entire school of thousands that cut.  The amount of people that have a genuine self-harm issue is a teeny tiny percentage of those who are cutting.  I’m disgusted by the amount of posts I see about cutting/self-harm on Tumblr that glamorize this terrible problem.
If you’re dealing with some difficult emotions, don’t try cutting to see if it will make you feel better, just because you see it on other girls, tumblr, and instagram.
TALK to someone, SCREAM, PUNCH SOMETHING.  There are other ways to release your negative emotion.  I have had great success with using Zentangles as a form of therapy.  Many of my girls I teach this to stop cutting altogether, believe it or not.
Try wearing an elastic band around your wrist.  When you feel like cutting and need a release through pain, snap it against your skin.
You ARE beautiful.  You ARE worthwhile.  Life DOES get better.  Many adults forget how hard being a teen is, and they dismiss what you are going through.  I’m 33, and I see it every day.  I also remember it like it was yesterday.  I was clinically depressed and horribly bullied.  It can be agony.  There are better ways to get through it.
****please re-blog, even if this doesn’t speak to you or fit on your blog.   It might reach someone who really needs to see it.  Thanks to source for the powerful message*******
